My name is Farhana Chowdhury and I have been involved in attending the focus group meetings to discuss the design and content of the promotional materials for the Mega Mela. I have volunteered before at the Oldham Citizen’s Advice Bureau, Amana Foundation and Mercy Mission. I volunteered to take part in the project because it is something that I can relate to. The aim of looking at the inter-generational differences of gift giving behaviours of South-Asian Muslims was what interested me most about the project. From this volunteering experience, I learnt about the different reasons why people give gifts and also how the reasons of the gift giving behaviour differ from generation to generation. I have also learnt to think more creatively as I participated in the group focus meetings. This volunteering experience has taught me how valuable heritage is and that it is an important part of a person.
